[origin: EP0419405A1] The seat-shell (15) exhibits braces (29) on both sides, which reach from the rear wall (27) obliquely forwards down towards the front part of the seating surface (25). The seat-shell (15), although of a light design, can therefore easily take the considerable forces which for example are transferred from the backrest (17) via the springs (23) to the back wall (27) when the chair is tipped. The seat-shell may be used for a variety of chair frames, e.g. those with a central leg, with four legs or with a sprung tubular steel frame. <IMAGE>
