Abstract (en)

[origin: WO8912706A1] The invention concerns a yarn and a method for its manufacture, the yarn consisting of at least one textile roving which contains metal fibres and other fibres which may be, but are not necessarily entirely, synthetic fibres. Most or all of the metal fibres are in the inner cross-sectional region of the textile roving. The outer cross-sectional region of the textile roving, which surrounds the inner region, consists mainly or entirely of skin-compatible fibres, in particular natural or synthetic fibres. The yarn, which may consist of the textile roving described above, or may be a thread made from one more such textile rovings, can be used to manufacture physiologically compatible, easily processed and easily cleaned woven and knitted materials and hosiery for electromagnetic screening purposes. In addition, the invention covers the use of this yarn in the manufacture of woven or knitted materials or hosiery for clothing designed to provide protection against electromagnetic radiation or to avoid electromagnetic interference.
