[origin: EP0420220A1] An installation for the heating or cooling of fluids, in particular water, is proposed, the container (1) of which is divided into a lower chamber (5) and an upper chamber (7) by a thermally insulating partition (3) which is provided with flowthrough openings (15). Pipes (11, 13) open into the lower chamber and into the upper chamber and a heating device (25) or a cooling device allows the heating or the cooling of the fluid in the two chambers at different temperature levels. The container (1) can be used as a storage container for heated or cooled fluid or otherwise as a buffer store of a heating installation or cooling installation. The partition (3) reduces the energy requirement necessary for heating or cooling. <IMAGE>
