Abstract (en)
[origin: EP0420684A2] A latch assembly for a vehicle bonnet has a funnel portion (3a) for guiding a striker pin into position and a tubular portion (3b) for limiting the misalignment of the striker pin and latch (8) formed as a single integral member (3). The latch (8) is pivotally mounted adjacent one of its ehds and partly projects through a slot (10) in the tubular portion (3b) to engage the head of the striker pin, and is held releasably in engagement by the spring (9). The latch assembly may have two plates (1, 4) through which the integral member (3) passes. Lugs on the integral member (3) are then clamped between the plates (1, 4) to secure it in place. Abutments (A) may be provided to retain the latch (8) in place should its pivot fail. A safety hook may be incorporated, a hook retainer being provided which mounts below and projects through the panel on which it is mounted.
