Abstract (en)

[origin: EP0421200A2] 2.1 A method in which two or more centrifuging stages situated spatially one above the other with intervening mashing are carried out in a common housing has not hitherto been possible in the case of highly viscous suspensions or/and suspensions which tend to form lumps. Such a method is used, for example, in the sugar industry, to treat the second sugar massecuite, and the object of the invention is to make it usable also for such highly viscous massecuites. <??>2.2 This object is achieved in that, before it enters the first centrifuging stage, the material to be centrifuged is viscosity-reduced and homogenised by the action of shearing force to such an extent that it can be fed to the centrifuging as a creamy massecuite and distributes itself uniformly on the screen of the first centrifuging stage. <??>2.3 This method is suitable for all highly viscous suspensions or/and suspensions which tend to form lumps, in particular in the sugar industry for treating the low-grade sugar massecuite, the so-called C sugar.
