Abstract (en)

[origin: EP0422483A2] Casings for typewriters or the like office machines generally speaking exhibit covers in the upper part of the casing, which are arranged movably from a closed position into a position which releases a functional element such as printwheel, colour ribbon cassette etc. which is arranged on a carriage which is movable along the typed line. For this purpose the casing covers of known machines are removable and must be laid on the desk, for example when changing colour ribbons. This is very awkward for the operator and also requires a certain degree of skill. Moreover the removable cover does not enable ergonomically favourable arrangement of a line indicator device, since the operator cannot observe the typed line on the recording medium and the display on the line display device under optimum conditions. The invention avoids the above disadvantages in that the casing cover (11) is mounted displaceably into both end positions by means of a parallel guide in the upper part (3) of the casing and that in the opening position the casing cover (11) is located right above the keyboard (9). In an advantageous design of the subject matter of the invention the line display device is also arranged in the displaceable casing cover (11). Through the features of the invention, optimum working conditions are created for the operator using the simplest means. <IMAGE>
