Steel of high hardness for armour plating, having the following chemical composition by weight: 0.4 to 0.7% of carbon, 0.3 to 1.5% of manganese, 0.1 to 2% of chromium, 0.5 to 1.5% of silicon, 1 to 5% of nickel, 0.2 to 1% of molybdenum, less than 0.015% of phosphorus, less than 0.005% of sulphur, the remainder being iron and residual impurities resulting from the melting of the substances needed for the production. <??>The invention also relates to a process for producing such a steel.

L'invention a pour objet un acier de haute dureté pour blindage ayant la composition chimique pondérale suivante 0,4 à 0,7% de carbone, 0,3 à 1,5% de manganèse, 0, 1 à 2% de chrome, 0,5 à 1,5% de silicium, 1 à 5% de nickel, 0,2 à 1% de molybdène, moins de 0,015% de phosphore, moins de 0,005% de soufre, le reste étant du fer et des impuretés résiduelles résultant de la fusion des matières nécessaires à l'élaboration. L'invention a également pour objet un procédé d'élaboration d'un tel acier.
