[origin: EP0423548A1] The automatic line-coupling for rail vehicles has a tubular part (1) which protrudes in front of a housing part (4) in the uncoupled state; on coupling, this tubular part (1) can be moved back counter to spring force. A hook element (8) is coupled to the tubular part (1) and can be swivelled out of a release position into a locked position or vice versa during coupling processes by running up on the housing part (4) or on the housing part (4') of the counter coupling, in which locked position it engages behind a hooking profile (16') of the tubular part (1') of a counter coupling. The tubular parts (1 and 1') of two coupled couplings are thus hooked to one another mechanically. The hooking of the tubular parts (1 and 1') is only dependent on the coupling state, irrespective of the pressure conduction in the tubular parts. The hook element (8) experiences movement only during coupling or uncoupling processes. As a result, secure hooking of the tubular parts (1) in the coupled state and a low degree of wear of the hook element (8) and of the parts which interact with it are ensured. <IMAGE>
