[origin: EP0423911A2] A paper insertion device for a printer (1) has a central deflection roller (2), above which there are arranged a printing abutment (3) and a laterally movable print head carriage (5) with a print head (4), paper guide channels (9, 10) being constructed on the central deflection roller (2) for individual sheets from an individual sheet shaft (25) with a set of separation rollers (26), and there being provided a tractor device (15) working in thrust operation. In order to achieve a particularly low construction and depth of the printer (1) together with the individual sheet shaft (25), it is proposed that the tractor device (15) be assigned to the central deflection roller (2) in the lowest possible position on the rear side (13) facing away from the printing abutment (3) relative to a printer baseplate (14), and that a paper guide channel (24), aligned tangentially on the circumference (23) of the central deflection roller (2), be arranged obliquely above the tractor device (15) for a first single sheet shaft (25). <IMAGE>
