[origin: US5123316A] A method and apparatus for the reduction of paper waste in a web fed printing machine utilizes one or more cutting mark reading heads and a strip cutting register device to vary the path of travel of a stack of part web strips in accordance with deviations in tension of the part web strips from a nominal value. Elongation or reduction of the length of the path of strip travel is used to properly register the strip stacks with respect to a strip cross-cutting device.
