[origin: EP0386524A1] 2.1. The problem frequently to be solved in the packaging industry is of producing packages of different size on one and the same packaging machine. Adjusting the machine to the various package formats generally requires considerable conversion work. This in turn entails lengthy shutdown phases of the packaging machine. <??>2.2. To make it easier to switch the packaging machine to different package formats, packaging elements, in particular folding elements, which are crucial for the packaging process are provided in a number of, preferably two, sets (40, 41). One set of the packaging elements is in each case situated in the packaging position (43). A further (part-)set is situated in a replacement position (44) for the replacement of individual or of all packaging elements for other formats. The format change is carried out in simple manner by the set (40, 41) required for the size of the package being brought by means of a rotary or other movement into the packaging position (43). As a result, minimum shutdown times of the packaging machine are required for a format change. <IMAGE>
