Abstract (en)

[origin: JPH03148413A] PURPOSE: To eliminate a drawback resulting from a lower cigarette layer in which cigarettes are placed obliquely or erroneously, by a method wherein a control cam for a tamping device is provided with a step for opening each cell at least by the height of one cigarette layer with respect to each exit orifice of a funnel-shaped container and, further, a movable cam portion is provided which serves to temporarily bridge each step. CONSTITUTION: A tamping device 12 is resiliently pressed by a spring 18 and always maintained in parallel with a bottom face of a cell 4. Two rollers 10 and 20 mounted to a shaft 21 disposed in parallel with a shaft 6 are mounted to a mounting base 13 for the tamping device 12. A roller 19 is rotatably contacted with a control cam 22 which brings the tamping device 12 up to a position suitable to the tamping of cigarettes so as to form one cigarette row, and which allows the tamping device 12 to hold the cigarette row at that position until a subsequent exit orifice of a funnel- shaped container 1 comes. The control cam 22 has a step 22a, and the step allows the tamping device 12 to be spaced outward in the direction of a periphery of a turret from the bottom face of the cell by a space corresponding to the height of a cigarette layer and holds the tamping device at that position until a subsequent step comes.
