[origin: EP0427068A2] For producing loose inserts (30) for envelopes, in the regions, in which the inserts (30), corresponding to the positional layout of the envelopes, are to have a distance from one another in production, there are made between neighbouring inserts (30) double cuts in the form of longitudinal cuts (25, 26) and/or in the form of transverse cuts (27, 28, 29) and thus cutoff parts (31) are cut free. The front transverse sections (39) in conveying direction (arrow 20) of the cutoff parts (31) are lifted out of the web (21) at the time of their cutting free and, after subsequent cutting free of the rear end of the cutoff part (31), drawn off. As a result, loose inserts for envelopes can be manufactured multiply lying next to one another and thus positionally accurately with high speed in such a manner that they can be transferred immediately subsequently between the cover layers of the envelopes. <IMAGE>
