[origin: EP0427156A2] A process serves to skive flap-like workpieces made of leather or artificial leather. A skiving machine (10) used for this purpose has a feed roller (15), at least one guide element (13, 14) and a bell-shaped blade (12) for transporting and guiding the workpieces. Servomotors serve to adjust the feed roller (15) and the guide element (13, 14). An electronic control unit (40) contains a memory for storing sets of setting values, corresponding to cross-sectional shapes, for setting the servomotors. A keyboard (37) serves, among other things, to address memory locations of the memory. A measuring device (40) contains means for detecting a thickness of the workpiece. The measuring device (40) produces a digital signal corresponding to the thickness. The measuring device (40) is connected to a first address line of the memory. <IMAGE>
