Device for driving independent wheels (12, 13) of a rail vehicle having a driving axle (20) in rotation from a motor (14), a reducer (15) and a mechanical differential (18). Dispositif d'entraînement de roues (12, 13) indépendantes en rotation d'un véhicule ferroviaire à essieu moteur (20), à partir d'un moteur (14), d'un réducteur (15), et d'un différentiel mécanique (18). Le différentiel mécanique (18) est disposé à l'extérieur de l'une des roues (12), dont l'un des pignons de sortie est accouplé directement à la roue la plus proche, et l'autre est accouplé à l'autre roue (13) par l'intermédiaire d'un arbre de liaison (20).
