There are described a composition for treating leathers and pelts, comprising (A) an anionic aromatic syntan and (B) a polymer and/or copolymer of an unsaturated C3-C5-mono- or dicarboxylic acid and/or hydroxy compounds thereof, a method for preparing wet-white leathers and pelts, and also the use of the composition for said preparation.
