[origin: EP0428925A1] 2.1. To close folding boxes 11, adhesive tapes 10 are automatically applied to closure sides 12 during transport of the boxes. The adhesive tape 10, which is drawn off from a roll, is pressed onto the folding box 11 under tension by pressure rollers. A pressure roller 26 serves to press an end section 39 of the adhesive tape 10, which projects at the rear, initially beyond the folding box 11, against a transversely directed side surface 40 of the folding box 11. <??>2.2. During use of adhesive tapes 10 with unstable support material, there is a danger of formation of corrugations and of curling in particular of the end regions of the adhesive tape 10. To this end, a holding-smooth member in the form of a stationary suction head 41 is arranged. The adhesive tape 10 slides along the latter in such a manner that, in the end phase, the projecting end section 39 is held temporarily in a smooth position until taken over by the associated pressure roller 26. <IMAGE>
