A novel process for the preparation of low-viscosity copolymers of monoalkyl maleates and vinyl alkyl ethers is characterised in that alkyl vinyl ethers are copolymerised with a mixture comprising maleic anhydride and monoalkyl maleates. The specific viscosity is controlled by establishing a certain maleic anhydride/monoalkyl maleate ratio. <IMAGE>

Gegenstand der vorliegenden Erfindung ist ein neues Verfahren zur Herstellung von niederviskosen Copolymerisaten von Maleinsäuremonoalkylester und Vinylalkylethern, das dadurch gekennzeichnet ist, daß die Copolymerisation von Alkylvinylether mit einer Mischung, bestehend aus Maleinsäureanhydrid und Maleinsäuremonoalkylester durchgeführt wird. Die Steuerung der spezifischen Viskosität wird durch die Einstellung eines bestimmten Maleinsäureanhydrid/Maleinsäuremonoalkylester-Verhältnisses erreicht.
