Abstract (en)
[origin: EP0429028A2] In order that a plurality of discharge lamps (LL1, LL2), which are connected to a common ballast (10), can be switched on and off separately from one another via external switches (S1, S2), the operating section (BT) of the ballast (10) is connected to the external switches (S1, S2) via decoupling elements (G1, G2). The operating section may be supplied via any of the decoupling elements (G1, G2). A detector (D1, D2) identifies which of the switches (S1, S2) has been closed and closes a switching element (T1, T2) contained in the lamp circuit (LK1, LK2) of the relevant discharge lamp (LL1, LL2) so that only those lamp circuits are closed whose detector (D1, D2) has been triggered. <IMAGE>
