[origin: EP0356040A2] The apparatus for removing particulate matter from exhaust gases includes a filter 6 for trapping particulate matter carried by the gases. A microwave generator 8 is arranged to irradiate the upstream face 10 of the filter 6, heating and oxidising particulate matter trapped in only a region adjacent that face. The heated zone then travels through the filter 6, regenerating the whole filter.

L'appareil pour éliminer les matières particulaires des gaz d'échappement comprend un filtre (6) destiné à piéger la matière particulaire portée par les gaz. Un générateur (8) de micro-ondes est agencé pour irradier la face amont (10) du filtre (6), chauffant et oxydant la matière particulaire piégée dans uniquement une région adjacente à cette face. La zone chauffée se déplace ensuite à travers le filtre (6), régénérant tout le filtre.
