Abstract (en)
An electrical connector for a robot welding machine with automatically interchangeable welding guns has a pair of electrical contacts (35, 60), one of said contacts (35) defining a tubular socket (37) and the other contact (60) defining a pin (62), each contact (35, 60) has connection means (39, 41; 66, 67) by which it is connected to a conductor (40, 65), the portion of each contact(35, 60) defining the connection means (39, 41; 66, 67) and a portion of the conductor (40, 65) connected thereto, being sealed within a respective housing (36, 61) made of insulative material, the pin (62) and socket (37) protruding from their respective housings (36, 61). The portion of the socket (37) protruding from its housing (36) is surrounded by a sleeve (45) of insulative material and the portion of the pin (62) extending from its housing (61) being surrounded by a tubular formation (75) of insulative material, the internal diameter of the tubular formation (75) being greater than the external diameter of the sleeve (45), and a sealing ring (81) being provided to produce a seal between the sleeve (45) and tubular formation (75) when the pin (62) engages in the socket (37).
