Abstract (en)

[origin: EP0430620A1] A fluid-filled strut (10) particularly suited for automotive engine torque control applications as described. The strut (10) includes a frame (13) having a pair of fluid-filled chambers (C) located adjacent opposite ends. Each chamber (C) is defined by juxtaposed recesses in a pair of elastomeric blocks (16a,16b) located on opposite sides of the frame (13). A discrete elongate fluid conduit (22) connects opposite axial ends of each chamber (C). Attachment plates (15a,15b) on opposite sides of the frame are bonded to the elastomeric blocks (16a,16b) and are connected together by a connector bolt sleeve (17) that extends across the frame (13) through the fluid-filled chamber (C). The elastomeric blocks (16a,16b) permit the frame 13 to move in alternate axial directions relative to the sleeve (17), and in response to such motion, fluid in the chamber (C) is displaced in alternate directions through the conduit (22) to effect the desired motion damping. The elastomeric blocks (16a,16b) are shaped to provide a desirable controlled snubbing action in both directions. <IMAGE>
