Abstract (en)
Device for continuous casting of thin metal strips (6) between two parallel rotating rolls (2), comprising lateral faces at the ends of the rolls defining, with the rolls, the casting space for the molten metal (1), characterised in that it comprises a flat cover (7), arranged above the molten metal (1) and in the immediate vicinity of its meniscus in order to form a thermal screen which is of a size so as to cover over the entire surface of the molten metal, this cover (7) being provided with a refractory coating (8) on its face which is turned towards the molten metal and bearing on the two rolls (2). This cover forms a thermal shield or screen preventing any incipient surface solidification of the bath of molten metal (1). Advantageously, an inert gas may be injected between the meniscus (4) and the cover (7) through the latter. <IMAGE>

Dispositif de coulée continue de bandes minces (6) de métal entre deux cylindres rotatifs parallèles (2), comportant des faces latérales aux extrémités des cylindres délimitant avec les cylindres l'espace de coulée du métal liquide (1), caractérisé en ce qu'il comprend un couvercle plat (7), disposé au-dessus du métal liquide (1) et au voisinage immédiat de son ménisque pour former un écran thermique dimensionné pour recouvrir toute la surface du métal liquide, ce couvercle (7) étant pourvu d'un revêtement réfractaire (8) sur sa face tournée vers le métal liquide et prenant appui sur les deux cylindres (2). Ce couvercle forme un écran ou bouclier thermique empêchant tout début de solidification superficielle du bain de métal liquide (1). Avantageusement un gaz inerte peut être injecté entre le ménisque (4) et le couvercle (7) à travers celui-ci.
