The invention relates to a control for a valve of an internal combustion engine. In order, for example, to increase the braking power of internal combustion engines, it is desirable to be able to vary the valve timing substantially independently of the movement brought about by the cam (2). For this purpose, the invention proposes to provide a connecting conduit (6) between the working piston (4) driven by the cam (2) and the reciprocating piston (8) of the valve (1), from which conduit there branches off a control conduit (17) leading to a control unit (18) which shuts off or opens the connection from the control conduit (6) to the return conduit (16) depending on whether the valve (1) is to open or close. The working piston (4) itself can function as a control piston and likewise shut off or open the connecting conduit (6) relative to the return conduit (16) in order to open or close the valve (1).

Die Erfindung bezieht sich auf eine Steuerung eines Gaswechselventils einer Brennkraftmaschine. Beispielsweise zur Erhöhung der Bremsleistung von Brennkraftmaschinen ist es wünschenswert die Ventilöffnungszeiten weitgehend unabhängig von der Bewegung durch den Nocken (2) variieren zu können. Erfindungsgemäß wird hierzu vorgeschlagen, zwischen dem vom Nocken (2) angetriebenen Arbeitskolben (4) und dem Hubkolben (8) des Ventils (1) Verbindungsleitung (6) vorzusehen, von der eine Steuerleitung (17) abzweigt, die zu einer Steuereinheit (18) führt, welche die Verbindung von der Steuerleitung (6) zu der Rückflußleitung (16) absperrt bzw. öffnet, je nachdem ob das Ventil (1) öffnen oder schließen soll. Der Arbeitskolben (4) selbst kann als Steuerkolben fungieren und ebenfalls die Verbindungsleitung (6) zur Rückflußleitung (16) hin absperren oder öffnen, um das Ventil (1) zu öffnen oder zu schließen.
