[origin: EP0432579A1] In order to be able to adapt the profile of the grinding wheel to the optimum grinding slope angle using a universal dressing roll, the grinding arbour (1) with the grinding wheel (2) is mounted on a pivoting device which can be controlled via a computer program which determines the optimum grinding slope angle and the associated profile of the grinding wheel. The shaping of the profile of the grinding wheel is effected by a movement of the grinding wheel within the machine axes X and Z past the universal dressing roll which remains in the horizontal plane. <IMAGE>
