Method of stopping a drum (4) of a washing machine (1) so as to bring the loading hole (5) of the drum opposite the door (3) of the washing machine (1), characterised in that it involves a reduction of an unbalance (10) formed by laundry poorly distributed in the drum (4) to a residual unbalance which is zero or has an negligible unbalancing effect, by a redistribution of the laundry in the drum (4), and stopping the drum (4) by terminating a drive of the drum (4) at a predetermined time (ta), starting from the detected moment of a passage of the loading hole (5) of the drum (4) in front of the door (3) of the washing machine (1). <IMAGE>
