A recording unit cartridge (10) includes as a unit: a recording head (8) for ejecting ink to effect recording; an ink supply system (11) for supplying the ink to the recording head; a capping member (14) for covering an ink ejection side surface of the recording head; an ink collecting member (12) the ink discharged to recover the recording head (8) and not used for the recording; a cleaning member (13) for cleaning the ink ejection side surface (8a) of the recording head; and a casing (2) for containing as a unit the head system and members, wherein the unit cartridge (10) is detachably mountable to a main assembly of a recording apparatus. <IMAGE>
