[origin: EP0436788A1] The invention relates to a spine protection device for motorcyclists against accidents, with plate elements (14, 15, 16, 19) made of deformable material and carried on an elastically deformable base element (12), which are arranged in sequence along the spine and are curved outwards, which extend beyond the spine at the sides and which are arranged at least partially overlapping one another or only slightly apart from one another. Interception of the impact forces in the event of a crash and prevention against further cut injuries are improved in that hollow spaces (20) are formed between the plate elements and the base element, and that these hollow spaces (20) are filled with an impact-absorbing packing (4) of low relative density, e.g. polystyrene foam. <IMAGE>
