[origin: EP0436881A1] The invention relates to a surge voltage arrester for electrical installations, which consists of a housing part and an insertion element. In this case, the insertion element is fitted with an actuating element, a defect display and contact tongues, to which corresponding mating contact elements are allocated, surge voltage protection elements, such as varistors, being arranged between said contact tongues. The surge voltage arrester in this case has an accommodation space which optionally holds an additional module for remote display of the defect, or a blanking module. <IMAGE>
