Abstract (en)
[origin: EP0437675A2] To improve the lifetime of known gun barrels and to improve the ballistics of a projectile fired by them, according to the invention a gun barrel having optimised rifling is proposed. <??>An edge-force trend (R(x)) according to the invention, obtained from this rifling and taken along the gun barrel (x), exhibits an essentially trapezoidal trend, with a markedly reduced edge-force maximum in comparison with such edge-force trends of conventional riflings (constant rifling: dot-and-dash line; parabolic rifling: dashed line). <IMAGE>
