[origin: EP0437681A1] The oil pan arranged on a [lacuna] below the crank casing of an internal combustion engine has a storage reservoir for lubricating oil and a pan section with a connection for an oil filter. A feed and return for lubricating oil is incorporated in the trough section of the oil pan lying directly beneath the crankshaft. The oil pan ensures directed control of all lubricating oil flows and provides for good venting of the oil. <IMAGE>
