[origin: EP0437858A2] The invention relates to a process for making blanks with a pattern on the upper surface for bricks, tiles and the like with the steps of extruding a raw material strand by means of an extruder, supporting and transporting the raw material strand by means of a transport device, imprinting a surface pattern into at least one strand surface by means of a corresponding negative pattern and cutting the raw material strand into blanks. According to the state of the art, an imprinting roller is used for imprinting the surface pattern. In order to avoid the offset occurring in this connection between the negative pattern and the surface pattern and to achieve a clean impression, the negative pattern, which is designed on an imprinting stamp (18), and the strand surface (23) are, according to the invention, held immobile relative to one another in their planes at least during their mutual engagement. <IMAGE>
