[origin: EP0438031A1] The method according to the invention for machining surfaces consists in that impressions (5) are created in the surface by means of one or more knurled rollers (7), the surfaces before knurling having been roughened by grinding or brushing. The depth of the knurling impressions (5) corresponds approximately to the average depth of the surface roughened e.g. by grinding. The non-roughened base material is essentially not compressed by the knurling. <IMAGE>
