[origin: EP0438135A1] A silver halide photographic photosensitive material is disclosed, comprising a support having thereon at least one hydrophilic colloid layer, at least one layer of which is a photosensitive silver halide emulsion layer comprising tabular silver halide grains having an aspect ratio of at least 3, said photosensitive silver halide emulsion layer being prepared by reacting a water soluble silver salt with a water soluble alkali halide to form an emulsion comprising tabular silver halide grains, de-salting the thus formed emulsion, chemically sensitizing the emulsion and coating the resulting chemically sensitized emulsion comprising tabular silver halide grains onto the support, wherein a chloride of an element or ion selected from the group consisting of Na, K, Mg, Ca, Li and NH4<+> is added to said emulsion either immediately after de-salting, after de-salting but prior to chemical sensitization, during chemical sensitization, after chemical sensitization but prior to coating, or immediately prior to coating.
