The stop element can be moved from a passive position, in which the thread is unwound and drawn past the stop element, to a stopping position, in which the thread under tension is held by the stop element during a pause until the stop element is moved back to the passive position. The axial gap between the last winding (11') of the stock of thread (S) and the stop element (13) can be set on a maximum value (Amax), depending on the quality of the thread, which prevents the thread from a axially wandering during the pause at least in the last winding (11') and in the thread section (12) that extends between the last winding of the stock of thread and the stop element (13).

Un dispositif de stockage et de livraison du fil pour machines textiles, notamment pour le fil de trame dans un métier à tisser automatique en plusieurs couleurs, comprend un moyen de délimitation de la longueur du fil tiré en sections mesurées, un élément de stockage en forme de tambour pour une réserve de fil enroulé de laquelle le fil peut être tiré par une extrémité du tambour et au moins un élément d'arrêt axialement espacé par rapport à la dernière spire de la réserve de fil enroulé. L'élément d'arrêt peut être déplacé entre une position passive, dans laquelle le fil tiré se déroule en passant par l'élément d'arrêt, et une position d'arrêt, dans laquelle le fil tendu est saisi pendant une phase de repos par l'élément d'arrêt jusqu'à ce que l'élément d'arrêt soit mis de nouveau en position passive.
