[origin: EP0439411A1] This insulator is of the type composed of a core (A) onto which is overmoulded a skirt (3) made from insulating material and provided with sheds (4), the core itself being composed of an axial rod (2) made from composite material onto the ends of which are swaged terminal sleeves of end-fittings (7-8). <??>According to the invention, the rod (2) is composed of a central member made from longitudinal fibres which are parallel and joined together by a thermosetting resin, whereas each of the end-fittings (7-8) is joined to the corresponding end of the rod, on the one hand, by uniformly distributed radial gripping of the sleeve around this end, and on the other hand by penetration of the metal of this sleeve into the spaces between fibres of the sheath (6). <IMAGE>
