[origin: EP0440974A1] In a safety system for motor vehicles having a stationary transponder (2) in the motor vehicle and a mobile transponder (1) for a question/answer dialogue for testing a motor vehicle user and unlocking the motor vehicle in the case of an authorised user, the interceptionproofness of the dialogue is ensured by means of a small range of one of the two transmitters. Additional functions such as remote control of the internal light, opening of a garage (8) or actuation of a window raising device can be triggered with the aid of the other transmitter which has a relatively large range. These additional functions can be triggered either directly on the transponder or by remote-control by the other transponder. <IMAGE>
