[origin: EP0442072A1] The valve device (30) for a connector (10) of a catheter (21) or the like consists of an open, beaker-shaped hollow cylinder (31) with a slotted base part (34) which is axially movable in a chamber (11) of the housing (20) of the connector (10). A helical spring (40) surrounding the hollow cylinder (31) forces it in the closure position with its opening edge against the inner end of a connector insert opening (13) of the housing whose diameter is greater than the inner circumference of the opening edge of the hollow cylinder (31). The base part (34) of the hollow cylinder (31) is in this case drawn into an adapted central opening (56) of a retention ring (50) fixed in the housing (20), from which opening the base part (34) can be pushed out axially in order to release its branches (43, 44) formed by the slot (42). <??>The rubber-elastic hollow cylinder is in this case at all times free from stress, so that the edges of the slot of the base part (34) do not deform. Nevertheless, the insertion of the retention ring (50) achieves an effective closure of the through-flow channel of the connector (10) both against air introduced from the outside and against blood seeping out from the inside.
