[origin: EP0442318A2] A particle filter is demonstrated which has a filter chamber 4 charged with filter cartridges 14, and connections 6, 7 for the exhaust gas, which is to be purified by removal of soot particles, and a connection 8 for supplying external heat or an engine-independent burner, wherein overflow pipes 18, 19 or inflow pipes 26, 27 having exhaust gas passage orifices 20, 21 or 17 or 28 are arranged next to the filter cartridges 14, so that uniform loading of the filter cartridges 14 in the sooting phase and burning-free phase is achieved, so that a sooting time of always constant length is obtained by means of complete burning-free. <IMAGE>
