A bridge, which can be assembled on the vehicle (1), is moved and set down by a laying device (2) located at one end of the vehicle (1). Bridge sections (10, 11, 12) are supported on a pick-up device (3) arranged at a distance from the laying device (2) in the longitudinal direction of the vehicle and can be moved by the pick-up device (3) at the same height and in the same direction as the laying device (2). To this end, the vehicle (1) is designed so that when the bridge sections are coupled, the cantilevered pick-up device (3) holds at least half of the maximum number of bridge sections provided, and the distance between the laying device (2) and the pick-up device (3) is such that at least one bridge section can be inserted between the bridge parts supported by the laying device (2) and the pick-up device (3).
