[origin: EP0443092A1] A lubricant flow retarder arranged in the case of an internal combustion engine is arranged adjacent to or in a surface adjoining an oil sump. It prevents foamed oil from being sucked up immediately because it has oil openings along its edge but otherwise separates the spaces lying above and below the retarder from one another. The oil reaches the strainer in a delayed fashion and is thus degasified. <IMAGE>
