[origin: EP0443397A1] A sheet feeder has a suction head (3) which is fitted with separating suckers (4), mounted on a reciprocating support (7), and at least one row of trailing suckers (5) which are mounted on a support (8) which reciprocates partially synchronously with further transport means and can preferably be swivelled for setting sheets obliquely, and which suckers can be subjected to a vacuum when a sheet is received from the separating suckers (4) and can be vented when the sheet is passed to further transport means. When the sheet is passed to the transport means (12), a rapid reduction in the vacuum prevailing at the trailing suckers (5, 6) is achieved in that the reciprocating trailing sucker support (8), constructed as a vacuum conducting section, is fitted with at least one venting opening (15 or 26) and a closing member (16) assigned thereto which can be raised from its seat by means of a control member (18 or 30, 31), attached to the suction head (3), within the range of synchronous movement of the trailing suckers (5) and further transport means (12). <IMAGE>
