Hollow carbon fibres are described which have a cross-sectional area in the shape of a ring which is not completely closed. They are produced by spinning a polyacrylonitrile melt through a spinner head having C-shaped spinneret orifices, drawing, oxidising and carbonising the fibres. The hollow carbon fibres are suitable for the production of high performance composite materials. <IMAGE>

Die Erfindung betrifft Kohlenstoff-Hohlfasern mit einer Querschnittsfläche in Form eines Rings, der nicht ganz geschlossen ist. Sie werden hergestellt durch Spinnen einer Polyacrylnitril-Schmelze durch einen Spinnkopf mit C-förmigen Düsenöffnungen, Verstrecken, Oxidieren und Carbonisieren der Fasern. Die Kohlenstoff-Hohlfasern sind zur Herstellung von Hochleistungsverbundwerkstoffen geeignet. <IMAGE>
