Abstract (en)
[origin: EP0443596A1] The disposal material is compacted to a fraction of its original volume while retaining its mixing structure and bond structure, is temporarily stored in this form, if necessary, and transported, and subjected to pyrolysis in this compacted form. All the pyrolysis products are immediately afterwards subjected to a high-temperature treatment under elevated pressure. The compacted disposal material can have been compacted into containers and is subjected to a low-temperature pyrolysis under pressure. In the environmentally sound processing of consumer goods, such as automobile wrecks or the like, large-volume portioning of the scrap material is carried out by division and/or compression before the intermittent introduction into the pyrolysis chamber. The solid, liquid and/or gaseous process products arising in the pyrolysis and containing pollutants are passed through one or more molten baths or smelted in an appropriate high-temperature furnace. The pyrolysis chamber can consist of a heatable pipe or rectangular duct or of a continuous furnace which takes a plurality of suitable containers with compacted disposal material.
