[origin: WO9006039A1] The identity of a calling subscriber unit (106) is provided to a called subscriber unit(s) (106') by requiring the calling subscriber to identify itself (112) to a central station (102 and 104a-c) and request access to the communication resources. The central station forwards the identity of the calling subscriber to the called subscriber (114), which enables the called subscriber to decide whether to respond to (answer) the call. If the called subscriber responds, an RF communication link between the two subscriber units is established. Conversely, if the called subscriber does not respond (or responds negatively), the calling subscriber unit is provided with a ''Busy'' indication. Optionally, the central station may operate as a system-wide message recorder to store messages from calling subscribers for non-responding (Busy) subscribers. In this way, a calling subscriber may leave a message for later retrieval.

L'identité d'une unité (106) d'un abonné appelant est communiquée à une unité d'abonné appelé (ou plusieurs) (106') en demandant à l'appelant de s'identifier (112) à un central (102 et 104a-c) et de demander accès aux ressources de communication. Le central transmet l'identité de l'appelant à l'appelé (114), ce qui permet à l'appelé de décider de répondre ou de ne pas répondre à l'appel. Si l'appelé répond, une liaison de communication HF entre les deux abonnés téléphoniques est établie. Inversement, si l'appelé ne répond pas (ou répond négativement), l'appelant reçoit une indication ''occupé''. Eventuellement, le central peut fonctionner comme un système d'enregistrement de messages pour stocker des messages provenant d'appelants et destinés à des abonnés ne répondant pas (occupés). De cette manière, un appelant peut laisser un message pour que ce dernier soit pris par la suite.
