Abstract (en)

[origin: EP0444410A1] In a process for mechanically backing rounded book blocks, held in a clamped position, by means of a backing element acting on the back of the book block with a defined pressing force, provision is made for one half of the back of the book block to be backed in each case, in that two backing elements (2) execute a rolling-off movement on the back of the book block in opposite directions starting from the centre of the back of the book block for compressing the printed sheets in the region of the centre of the back of the book block and a tangential sliding friction movement on the back of the book block for folding over the printed sheets in the side regions of the back of the book block and are returned to their starting position on a path which is remote from the back of the book block when the backing has been completed. <IMAGE>
