[origin: EP0444436A2] In order to treat the bristles of brushes, the bristles are tensioned at a distance from their active ends cut to the desired length at these ends and subsequently processed by means of a plane abrasive surface arranged perpendicularly to the extent of the bristles, all the points of which abrasive surface are moved on circular paths of the same diameter. In order to set the contact pressure, the abrasive surface is moved towards the bristles, and in order to influence the result of processing the bristles are laterally supported between their tensioning point and their active ends at a distance from the abrasive surface which is variable but is always identical for all bristles.
