Abstract (en)

[origin: EP0371369A1] Concentrated, free-flowing anionic surface-active agents with a water content of less than 1 % by wt., in particular less than 0.5 % by wt., may be prepared by the sulphonation of unsaturated C16 to C22 fatty acids with sulphur trioxide, using the sulphur trioxide in the molar proportion of 0.8-1.2:1, in particular 0.9-1.0:1, with respect to the olefinic double bonds in the fatty acids, and by subsequent neutralization of the sulphonation products with triethanolamine.
