[origin: EP0445489A1] The invention relates to a metering device (1) for the weft yarn (2) of a loom, having a metering roller (3) which is located between a supply unit (10) and a draw-off unit (20) and round which the weft yarn is wound during metering and which determines the draw-off speed of the weft yarn. In the event of a weft break, a new yarn start is shot past the metering roller (3) into a catching nozzle (21) and, via a deflecting device (22), into a yarn store (23). A brake (12) terminates the shooting operation. While a draw-off element (24) is exerting a pull on the yarn (2), an automatic multiple winding of the metering roller (3) takes place in that, as a result of a relative movement between the shot weft yarn (2) and a catching nose (6) rotatable about the roller axis (5) of the metering roller (3), the weft yarn is moved into a catching region (8) of the catching nose (6). During a rotation of the catching nose (6) about the roller axis (5), the weft yarn is deposited in the form of a winding on the metering roller (3). After a plurality of windings of the metering roller (3), a severing element (25) cuts off the yarn residue running to the yarn store (23), and the yarn tip newly obtained travels, moved by the metering roller (3), into a starting position provided for the weaving cycle. <IMAGE>
