[origin: EP0445899A1] The invention relates to a method for the manufacture of medium- and thin-walled seamless pipes from an elongate hollow body of limited length which is deformed by rollers to the desired finished dimensions. In order to specify a method for the manufacture of medium- and thin-walled seamless pipes (5) with a diameter/wall thickness ratio in the range from 15 : 1 to 50 : 1 by means of which it is possible to produce the desired finished dimensions while achieving good surface finish and remaining within the prescribed dimensional tolerances, starting from an elongate hollow body and with a minimum outlay on plant, it is proposed that the diameter of the hollow body be reduced to a significant extent in just one rolling pass and that the inner surface be smoothed using an internal tool (4) with only a slight change in the wall thickness and that the axis of the hollow body (14) should be in alignment with the rolling axis (14) during the rolling operation. <IMAGE>
